Ingredients
  

Meat and Vegetables
  • 1 lb ground beef preferably 80% lean
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper diced
  • 1 medium tomato diced
  • 1 cup potatoes peeled and diced
Spices and Seasoning
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano dried
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 cup beef broth
Additional Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil for cooking

Method
 

Cooking the Picadillo
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper, and sauté until softened.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned.
  5. Mix in the diced tomatoes, potatoes, cumin, oregano, salt, black pepper, beef broth, and bay leaf.
  6. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for about 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
  7. Remove the bay leaf before serving.
