Ingredients
  

Burger Patties
  • 2 cans black beans drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup bread crumbs or gluten-free alternative
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg or flax egg for vegan option
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for cooking
Toppings
  • 4 slices cheese optional
  • 1 cup lettuce shredded
  • 1 large tomato sliced
  • 1 large avocado sliced
  • 4 buns burger buns whole grain or gluten-free

Method
 

Prepare the Mixture
  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.
  2. Add the bread crumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and egg (or flax egg). Mix until well combined.
Form and Cook the Patties
  1. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
Assemble the Burgers
  1. Place each patty on a bun and top with cheese (if using), lettuce, tomato, and avocado.
  2. Serve immediately with your choice of sides.
