Cake Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting and Assembly
- In a mixing bowl, beat peanut butter and butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream until smooth.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of peanut butter frosting on top, then drizzle with caramel sauce.
- Top with the second cake layer and frost the top and sides with remaining peanut butter frosting.
Ganache and Topping
- In a saucepan, heat heavy cream until just boiling. Pour over chocolate chips in a bowl and let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth.
- Drizzle ganache over the frosted cake and sprinkle with crushed peanuts.
